Bright and cheery enough for kitchens and bedrooms both, Sharp’s compact AQUOS LC-15SH1U LCD television is just over 3 inches deep yet produces a vivid 15-inch image using Sharp’s proprietary Advanced Super View LCD panel. The standard 4:3 aspect-ratio screen has a high contrast ratio (500:1) and wide viewing angles (an impressive 170 x 170 degrees), while its Black TFT anti-glare coating makes it bright enough to view its brilliant colors with ease, even in well-lit rooms. With its fold-out, easel-type stand and its light weight (less than 10 pounds), the LC-15SH1U is easy to position and reposition. Its screen offers 480 x 640 (VGA) resolution.
LCD screens offer a number of benefits over CRT monitors and televisions, including general ease of use, freedom from eye strain (no screen flickering or radiation emissions), quiet operation (no high-pitch “flyback” noise, an issue with CRT TVs), accurate image geometry (no curvature distortion or susceptibility to magnetic interference from, say, speakers), long screen life (with no risk of image burn-in), and of course space savings. They also tend to be more affordable than their flat-panel plasma counterparts, which often (though not always) offer faster response times and higher contrast ratios.
An electronic, 181-channel PLL tuner handles over-air reception of TV programming. One each component-, composite-, and S-video inputs accommodate everything from non-progressive-scan DVD players to VCRs, camcorders, and gaming consoles, while a built-in 181-channel tuner and RF coaxial input lets you plug your cable TV line right into the TV and start watching. For audio, the set’s twin speakers are mounted along the bottom of the front panel to keep the set as narrow and compact as possible. The 2 speakers are driven by 1 watt apiece.
Other features include V-Chip parental control, MTS/stereo SAP (Second Audio Program) audio reception, closed captioning, a sleep timer, and auto channel setup.
