How Do I Replace Blades on a Craftsman Riding Lawn Mower?
1. Park your mower on a level surface. Raise the cutting deck to its highest position and turn off the lawnmower. Take the key out of the ignition.
2. Wedge a block of two-by-four between one end of the lawnmower blade and the bottom of the mowing deck.
3. Grab the end of the blade where you have the block of wood with one hand. Place a socket wrench over the blade, securing the bolt with your other hand, and turn the bolt counterclockwise to remove it from the mower.
4. Remove the block of wood and remove the two washers from around the blade shaft. There is a lock washer and a flat washer. Pull the blade away from the mower deck.
5. Hold the side of new blade faces the mower deck.(Note do not hold the wrong side face the deck.) Position the new blade over the mower shaft until the star on the shaft fits into the star hole of the blade. The blade has a star hole in the centre that fits around a star notch to turn the blade with the shaft and prevents the blade from slipping while cutting.
6. Slide the flat washer over the shaft and the lock washer. Thread the securing bolt into the shaft until it is hand-tight.
7. Hold one end of the blade and tighten the securing bolt with a socket wrench. Repeat the process for the mower blade on the opposite side.
